Some humorous tales of Bill Bradley, the 40-something workhorse pitcher and sometime outfielder of the Denver MSBL Royals:
Late in a game against the A's on July 14, 1992, after a combination of errors by our team, one could detect an odor in the air. Sniffing, Bradley asked, "Is that a skunk--or our team?"
Before a game against the Indians on July 29, 1992, the umpire consulted with our team regarding the acceptability of the Indians' pitcher wearing a white bandage on his glove hand. After noting it was hidden by the glove, the consensus was that it would be OK.
With the matter settled, Bradley hollered to the pitcher, "What's wrong, couldn't you find any Ninja Turtle bandaids?"
In a game vs. Dodgers, Sunday, Aug. 29, 1993, burly 3rd baseman Joe Mucci, a former football player, nimbly caught a squib pop-up right on the foul line back of third. Even while looking up as he made the catch, he seemed to carefully keep his feet inside the foul line without touching it. After the catch, Bradley cheered from left field, "Way to keep your feet in bounds, Joe."
While warming up Bradley has observed, "There's a fine line between warmed-up and worn-out."
To generate enthusiasm on the bench, Bradley will holler, "Be a sparkler if you can't be a Roman candle."
